I recently heard a huge THUD on my sliding glass door. I instantly recognized the sound. My first reaction was "Oh no, do I have to perform "Bird CPR" again????
I can't tell you how many birds I have saved by performing Bird CPR on them! Now mind you, I learned this from my mom. When I was growing up, we use to live in a house that had nearly all windows, floor to ceiling, spanning the front of our house. Birds were always crashing into them and mom would attempt to revive them with her own version of CPR.
Same thing at my house, only the windows are at the back of my house. The birds crash into my sliding glass door and I find them on the patio floor. I run out, assess the situation (do they have a broken wing or did they just get knocked out?). I open their little beaks and just blow tiny little soft breaths into their beaks. Pretty soon eyes flutter, they lay their awhile and then they finally fly away. Yea, another bird saved! The bird may have survived if I would have just left it alone, but I like to think I did my part to save him!
Now, back to the THUD I experienced a couple of weeks ago. I ran out to see if CPR was needed, but there was no bird in sight. Thankfully he got away unscathed! A few days later when the bright afternoon sun was shining just perfectly on my sliding glass door, Jeff said, "Mom, I see a bird ran into your window". I asked him how he knew that. He directed my attention to the perfect imprint the bird left on the window. Poor bird, he really got a full on, wings spread, MAJOR STOP from that window!
I grabbed my camera and got a picture of it before it got washed off. I was actually pretty safe considering how often I wash my windows!!! However, the bird imprint could have easily been smeared with little grand-boy fingerprints!
At any rate, here is the "bird print", very detailed with each separate feather showing! Click on it to see it larger.

Perhaps it was a particularly dirty bird to create such a perfect print? At first, I thought it was a picture of the actual bird flying away!
