Well, I found out that kidneys are pretty necessary and they get very upset when they have a nasty bacteria trying to mess with them!
Over the last month or so I've been getting sicker and sicker, couldn't hardly eat anything (OK...now you KNOW I must have been REALLY sick when I couldn't eat...right!). I got shuttled from Dr. to Dr., you know the drill, but I just kept getting weaker and sicker with no one pin pointing the problem. Finally my blood tests came back with some pretty scary results and I was off to the ER and a four day stay in the hospital. They announced that I had "Acute Kidney Failure" and put me on IV antibiotics and a bunch of other stuff. It doesn't mean my kidneys failed completely, but they were starting to fail. They said if I'd waited another day or two I would have been down to only 20-30% kidney function which could have meant dialysis for awhile.
I'm home now, had to have a home health nurse come and show me how to do IV antibiotics at home for the next two weeks. But everything should be fine by then.
When I was pretty darn sick (before going to the hosp), I told John that if I died, just engrave this on my tombstone: "I TOLD YOU I WAS SICK!!!!!" Ha!!!
All's well that ends well. Here is my "war scar" from MANY IV attempts:
Whew, what an experience!!!
I'm doing my part to get better, see:

What an ordeal! You certainly have the bruises to prove it, too. We are so glad you are home and on the mend!
ReplyDeleteOw-Eeeeh!!! That looks horrible! That's the way both my arms got when I tried to give blood and they were determined to get it out of me regardless! Dick said, "never again!"
ReplyDeleteI wish I could visit with you but hubby comes first! Now I have a cold and he is still in hospital and I don't want to pass the bug onto him! Thank God our children and grandchildren are near.
After we are all well you and I are going out of town on an over-nighter fun photo shoot excursion!
